Arwa Spire
Arwa Spire

The plan was to climb the 1000 meters high North Face on Arwa Spire, 6193 meters, a impressive granite peak in the indian Garwhal Himalaya. Together with the bavarian climber Peter Anezenberger they planned to do a free ascent of the route 'Capsico', a route which was opened in 2002 by swiss climbers. And it seemed to be quite possible to freeclimb the long and obvious cracksystem on that monolithic buttress.

After acclimatisation and transporting all the necessary gear to the base of the wall bad weather was coming in. meters of fresh snow put an end to all free climbing dreams. In fall, the route does not get any sun, so even the good weather could not change the wintry conditions any more. Every little hold, every single crack had were packed in snow and low temperatures made it necessary to switch over to aidclimbing.

Finally, Thomas, Alexander and Peter successfully repeated the route 'Capsico' and reached the west summit of Arwa Spire.
